The time for the termination of the useless, restless, destructive War on Drugs has arrived. Skyrocketing taxpayer costs have now reached $19.2 billion per year , just at the federal level, more than double that if you include state spending.  The total reaches beyond $50 billion when you start including the cost of prosecuting drug offenders and keeping them in prison.

    But the biggest cost is not a dollar amount.  The incredible loss of freedom and loved ones for all Americans in this War will be the biggest toll.

    The War on Drugs is a National Disaster.  It is just the 1920’s prohibition of alcohol revisited.  Organized crime feasted off Prohibition.  It is likewise engorging itself in the War on Drugs .  Prohibition mercifully passed.  And the Drug War is long overdue for a similar death .

    The use of illicit drugs may become a minor problem, once legalized  This certainly is the case when you compare the deaths from the use of illicit drugs to the deaths from the use of tobacco, alcohol or prescription drugs.  There are solutions to the drug problem (of all kinds), but it is not guns and jails.  It is Open Communication.

    Legalize drugs so they can be dealt with.

    The War on Drugs is doomed; a Meyers tenure in the Congress of the United States will speed up its much needed demise.
