Some thoughts on the "well known" VIFA D25AG-35-06 Choosing the drivers for a loudspeaker design is the most challenging aspect for me, since I have a difficult time selecting based upon specifications. However, since this driver is widely respected and has excellent specifications, I felt that it would suit me as well. I went into this design have only worked with a few tweeters. First, rat shacks 1" soft-dome tweeter then the morel MDT-32 another 1" soft-dome and then the peerless 811687 1" soft-dome tweeter. As you can see, a soft-dome only attitude was present until I purchased this tweeter. Truthfully, the only tweeter from the above list I really respect is the peerless 811687. The rat-shack is crap, and in retrospect I don't feel I applied the MDT-32 correctly. My next design, may well use the morel now that I have increased my knowledge of crossover design. I seem to have rambled on about drivers not featured in this project (oops!). With metals dome's being unknown to me, I moved forward in the design with immense curiosity and a healthy fear of the unknown.

I must say that with he finished design, I am very satisfied with the sound of this tweeter. It is very smooth and natural, never sounding harsh as a soft-dome can. The only problem with the tweeter I can sight is that it is too good. When driven to higher levels, the cone does not suffer from break-up like the woofer and hence the treble is accented. This leads to a very aggressive sound. After listening to the prestige at high levels, I feel this tweeter better suited to a very stiff coned woofer, like the vifa mineral-filled polypropylene cone models. Here are the specs. . .
