SOJOURNING AT TARA’S MEADOW CENTER
"My stay went well from start to finish. I felt you
were an excellent host and delightfully shared your
love for the island's history and natural beauty . . .Your home is simple yet ever so functional and
enchanting. I loved sleeping in the upper floor and
doing the private work up there also. The shamanic
journey backwards and forwards were both meaningful .
. . the wood floors and ceilings are warm and calming
. . .You easily conveyed your sense of love for the
land and the enchantment seemingly found everywhere."
-- Terry Malloy, guest sojourner at Tara's Meadow
GUEST SOJOURNERS AT TARA’S
Each summer we are blessed to host “in house” guests
on personal sojourn to the island. They come for a
variety of reasons and experiences. Rowan came to
master the shamanic movement meditation called “the
Wizard’s Dance” –
a powerful daily exercise that
breathes movement, life and fire into the ancient
Celtic Song of Amergin . . .“My time at Tara’s Meadow can be described in one
word: Magical. Seamus is an exemplary host. The food
was superb, and his teaching and guidance with the
Wizard’s Dance is as it should be. He pushes where
pushing is needed, and he gives me needed time alone
to assimilate what I’ve
experienced. Seamus' island tour was wonderful too.”
-- Rowan O’Daugherty, guest sojourner at Tara’s Meadow
Laura came to experience the beauty and serenity of
nature. Our 12-mile bike ride together took her to
some of the island’s most beautiful inland lakes and
historical places. Laura’s photos of butterflies,
white lilies, and a soaring bald eagle overhead were
part of the treasures we shared afterwards with a good
meal, wine, and well-earned rest back at Tara’s . . .
“Tara’s Meadow is a beautiful land and home. The house
is an easy space to be in, and Seamus is knowledgeable
about the island’s history and nature. He is a gentle
and considerate host, and I will be back.”
-- Laura Bouch, guest sojourner at Tara’s Meadow
Gillian had just returned to the States from India,
where she performed peace work with a non-governmental
service organization. Her time in India had raised
some key life questions and she came out to Tara’s on
a personal soul-search . . .
“Seamus was the reason I ventured out to Tara's
Meadow. His ability to be honest, patient, and
thoughtful about my experiences is something I am very
grateful for. I needed someone to be both forthright
and sensitive . . . Thank you Seamus, Thank you Tara’s
Meadow for being so wonderful! You were just what I
needed!
-- Gillian Garson, guest sojourner at Tara’s Meadow
“I love lending a hand as visitors come to play and explore the sacred beauty
of Beaver Island. It's a joy for me too, when I'm asked also to serve and
assist folks who are seeking greater clarity and healing in their lives.
It's the work I'm meant to do, and now we have the most beautiful space I can
imagine to do it in” - Seamus
ARRANGING YOUR SOJOURN
Each guest sojourn at Tara's Meadow is "a personal
creation" jointly crafted with Seamus’ help. The
elements are all there for a refreshing, peaceful and
renewing personal retreat: solitude time, beach time,
rest and play, forest hikes and ecology, history, and
friendly island culture. Some individuals may also be
seeking healing and clarity along their life paths. Seamus is on hand with a variety of skills and tools
to assist. Tara’s beautiful tree-top hexagon room is
the perfect place to practice gentle graceful movement
meditations, spirit drawings and shamanic journeying
for instance. Simply fixing dinner together in this
beautiful place, sharing inspired conversation in the
evening as the owls call . . . is a quiet healing
gift.
Your sojourn begins with a phone call to Seamus,
exploring your needs and desires, and the
possibilities for your stay. Prime weekends for the
summer can fill quickly, so it is best to call by at
least by early spring to assure your dates. Call
Seamus Mullin-Norgaard at (231) 347-7957.
"You were very attentive to my emotional needs yet
respected my time and space. I loved talking with you
at all levels . . . it's always cutting-edge no matter
where you are on the spiral journey. I loved every
minute of discussion and understanding achieved. I
loved falling asleep on the beach and finding our way
through the forest. I loved the mystery of Tara's
Meadow and Body Prayers with getting me in touch with
my body, as it grounded me as well as made me feel an
extra connection with the flow of the universe."
-- Kathy Riley, guest sojourner at Tara's Meadow
CEDAR HOME and ENVIRONS
IMMEDIATE SURROUNDINGS Guest visitors are located
within a mile of an ancient oak grove on a beautiful
inland lake (to our north); a nature conservancy marsh
with an interpretive trail (to our south); and the
beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline (to our west.) At
the west end of Tara's Meadow on the trail to the
beach is our ceremonial stone circle and Cairn,
available for visitor's use.
A PERFECT SITE Our New Cedar Home and "Healing
Hexagon" are located at the forest's edge of Tara's
Meadow, our beautiful 20 acre retreat site on Beaver
Island in North Lake Michigan. This location gives us
both privacy and proximity to the open meadow, a
spring pond where the peepers sing, and the deep
forest nearby. Visitors and pilgrims who stay with us
can choose either to camp in the meadow or share our
simple, enchanting home and healing center. CENTER ACCOMODATIONS Our downstairs features a natural
stone tile kitchen and great room "in the round", with
an adjacent full bath and a quiet guest bedroom. The
guest bedroom features warm carpeting and a queen bed,
a bookcase library, and a separate entrance to the
forest outdoors. Climbing the spiral staircase you
enter our new healing space, a hexagon in-the-round,
with oak wood flooring and an all-cedar cathedral
ceiling. Individual sojourners or small groups can
sleep in this magnificent healing hexagon room on
mattresses provided. It's an exquisitely beautiful
space amongst the trees, with full windows and an
enlightenment cupola over head allowing in the soft
green light of the forest. Step directly out from here
onto the high balcony near the tree tops. This is
sacred space; crafted to welcome individual sojourners
or small groups for retreats, classes, meditations, or
Body Prayers personal healing and discovery work.
SPECIAL SERVICES Your Tara's Meadow stay can offer you
more than a beautiful and enchanting physical space:
if you so desire it, you can allot some time to
explore the “joys and challenges” of your life's
journey. When you arrive, sojourners are invited to
walk out to the sacred cairn and place a "stone of
intention" there for the time of their stay. Seamus is
available for private coaching and life path
explorations (see PERSONAL CARE SESSIONS); as well as
small group sessions on topics such as Body Prayers,
Peace, and Celtic Spirituality. Some guests may simply
wish a guided tour of Beaver Island's natural and
historical treasures, or company on a hike to the
forest or beach. When you call to arrange your stay,
that’s the perfect time to explore your needs - be
they for solitude, company, or special guidance. It is
a joy for Seamus to co-craft with you the perfect
blend of elements for your stay. Contact Seamus
directly to schedule your stay by emailing
CelticBodyPrayers@yahoo.com or calling (231) 347-7957. OUR MISSION AND VISION
Our mission at Tara's Meadow is to uplift. We seek to
inspire folks to step forward in the fruition of their
lives, encouraging them as they open up their gifts to
life. We believe the support of healthy communities
can help further this process, so we are also
networkers and builders of community. We believe that
by accomplishing these goals we can enhance a greater
vision of healing and peace on this planet. UNIQUE ISLAND CULTURAL RESOURCES
Tara's Meadow brings some unique tools and resources
to its mission. Centered in a beautiful natural meadow
on a Western Isle in North Lake Michigan, both the
Meadow itself and Beaver Island bear special
historical and spiritual significance. The Island
carries the lore and heritage of two powerful native
traditions: Celtic Irish and Native American Odawa.
The naming of "Tara's Meadow" and its history are part
of the Irish lore of the island, connecting it with
the old concept of a "sacred center", where pilgrims
touch foot to stone and come fully into their power.
The Meadow and adjacent indoor facility provide
"sacred ground" for our vision, though both our
mission and vision reach for the universal by
supporting peace and native wisdom movements around
the globe. Our work takes place in workshops and
gatherings both on and off the island throughout the
year (See “’School on the Hill’ Fall-Spring Retreats”
for your mainland options.)
A CENTER FOR PEACE and NATIVE WISDOM
We call Tara's Meadow "A Center for Peace and Native
Wisdom" with special understandings of these terms.
"Peace" is that quality of calm, acceptance and
compassion that comes when we fully embrace what life
brings our way. "Native Wisdom" includes the
life-reverent teachings of people living closely with
the earth and their place of origins. "Native Wisdom"
also signifies that inherent wisdom we each can carry
when we are grounded, awakened, and present any place
on this planet. CENTER EVENTS
