  • 1.   Make reading to your child a daily ritual from the beginning, and don't stop when your child learns to read independently.

  • 2.   Expose you child to a language-rich envinronment from birth.

    3.Talk together, ask questions, tell stories, recite poetry, and sing songs.

    4.   Find reading material that engages your child.

    5.   Make reading with your child fun.

    6.   Keep your house filled with a variety of books, magazines and newspapers, and monitor television watching.

    7.   Set the example of reading.

    8.   Visit the library often.

    9.  Start a home library for your child.

    10.   Form a partnership with reading experts, such as your child's teacher, school librarian, and public librarian, to encourage reading.
