Fan Walkout Day is a nationwide boycott
of every major league game played on Sunday, July 7, 2002

The Schedule For July 7, 2002

Sunday, July 7 was chosen for three reasons:

• It's a good day to get media coverage: As any baseball fan knows, absolutely nothing of any importance happens on the Monday before the game. Other than the "Hey, it's the All-Star Break and look at how we're doing..." stories from the beat writers and columnists (which most papers like to run on Wednesdays), there is nothing to write about. If the games are played in empty stadiums, that will be the lead story on every sports page on Monday.
  
• Both the players and owners meet during the break: The meetings aren't always formal, but there are always people getting together to talk. If we boycott the day before all the millionaires get together, what do you think they're going to talk about?
  
• There's a full schedule of games that day, and most of the home teams are bad guys: Here are the teams who will lose a day's wages:

Remember, according to studies performed by sports marketing firms, every paid admission to a major-league game spends an average of $20 while inside the park. Even if you;ve already bought your ticket, you can deny your local team money just by not showing up.
