As a "brilliant emerging artist," Soprano Corinne
Elaine Nelson has been praised for her "dark voice with silver wings." A
Northern Illinois University Alumnus, and student of Myron Myers, Ms. Nelson
received her Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from Roosevelt University.
She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Comparative-International Education at
Loyola University in Chicago.
Ms. Nelson has performed such roles as Alice Ford (Falstaff), Rosalinda (Die
Fledermaus), Marghuerite (Faust), Mimi (Boheme), and Magda (The Consul),
among others. At NIU, she appeared in many alternative opera productions,
such as Opera Improv and Hypra, a computer opera. Ms. Nelson has recently
returned from the Young Artist Program of the Pine Mountain Music Festival,
where she was praised for her "artistry."
Ms. Nelson was recognized with a grant from the Lake Placid Institute for the
Arts as "the cream of the crop of the next generation." An alternate with
the Des Moines Metro Opera Program and a finalist in the Alan Stone Debut
Artists Program, Ms. Nelson has sung with the Pine Mountain Music Festival,
DuPage Opera Theater and in the Auditorium Theater of Chicago as a
convocation soloist. An active recitalist, Ms. Nelson has premiered new
works by composer Rufus Brown at Heinegger Hall and Ganz Hall. She has
appeared in recital with internationally-acclaimed singers Jennifer Lane and
Phyllis Bryn-Julson and has been a guest artist at Central Missouri State
University, Northern Illinois University, North Central College, North Park
College, and Roosevelt University.
In addition to her performance career, Ms. Nelson is an Assistant Professor
of Music at Carthage College, in Wisconsin, where she is the director of the
Musical Theatre Program. She is also the program coordinator for the Music
Integration Project and the camp director for "Summer on Broadway" at the
Music Institute in Evanston, IL.
Corinne is also a Visiting Artist at the Shanghai Conservatory in China.
She will also be giving a presentation at the 2006 NATS national convention.
Ms. Nelson also is the Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction for the
Center for American Music Theatre.
She previously taught at Chippewa Middle School
in Des Plaines, where she directed 300 students in six award-winning choirs.
She has been instrumental in developing district-wide assessments for the
fine arts and in developing a movement and music curriculum for the
district.
Ms. Nelson currently resides in Round Lake Beach with her husband, guitarist
David Ness.
