State Superintendent Tom Watkins has transmitted a Special Education Rules Package to the Office of Regulatory Reform. The proposed rules are available in pdf format on  OSEP's Homepage

It was parents’ voices that caused Michigan Rules for Special Education
to be put into place.

In Michigan our children with special needs have reaped the benefits of Michigan's Rules for Special Education. These rules have ensured that our children receive an education far superior to what is federally mandated. If the new rules go into effect it will be left up to individual Intermediate School Districts to decide what services they can afford to provide to students with special needs that are not federally mandated other than educating our more severely involved students until age twenty six instead of age twenty one.

Parents voices will keep them in place.
