 Generation One

1. Valentijn1 Reijneck; born circa 1715 in Germany; married Susanna Sadelaer circa 1734 in Germany; died after 1779 in Schenectady, Schenectady Co, NY. Records of St.Jan, Dutch Reformed Church in Maastricht, the Netherlands, indicate that he was in that city on 25 August 1743 when his son Johan Andreas was baptized there. He emigrated circa  1755.
The given name Valentine was not common in the Netherlands. It is possible that he was part of the many groups that fled the constant fighting in the Palatine, moving down the Rhine, through the Netherlands and eventually to the English Colonies in America. There is a rural estate named Reineke in Eysden in the Dutch Provence of Limburg. That family is known to have come from Oppenheim in the Palatinate and also to have spread to the land of Hessen-Nassau in Germany. There are many families with a name similar to Reinicke in that area and one intriguing example is a master baker and innkeeper named Andres Reinick who lived in Hesse in the middle 1600s. Valentine's son Andres became a baker in New York.
Enlistment records show that he was a member of the New York Westchester County Militia in the years 1758, 1759, 1761, and 1762. These records for the NY Militia show that he was born in Germany as do those of his son Andrew (Johan Andres).
Muster Rolls for the NY militia for the years 1758-1762 are given in The 3rd Annual Report of the New York State Historian, 1897. in 1743.
He was listed as a member of the First Reformed Church as Valentyn Rynik along with wife Susana Satelar on 15 Apr 1755 in First Reformed Church, Tarrytown, Westchester Co., NY. He was a laborer. He began military service on 22 Apr 1758 in Westchester Co, NY. He began military service on 9 Apr 1759 in Westchester Co, NY. He began military service in 1761 in Westchester Co, NY. He began military service on 28 Apr 1762 in Westchester Co, NY.

He immigrated circa 1755. He was a taylor (sic) circa 1762 in Albany, Albany Co, NY. He was apparently in the NY Colonial Militia because the muster roll for the City and County of Albany, Capt. John Visher's Company, shows a John Reynex enlisting on 13 May 1762. Another muster roll for the County of Albany, City of Schenectady, Capt. John Duncan's Company, shows a John Rynick enlisting on 11 May 1767. During the Revolution he served as a private and drummer under Captain Thomas Wasson, 2nd Albany County Militia. His name also appears on the rolls of the 2nd Albany County Militia, Land Bounty Rights (see New York State in the Revolution as Colony and State ) in 1762. As a bakers apprentice he was mentioned in "The New York Mercury" of 10 Sep 1764 as having run away from his master, John Shoults. He was said to be about 21 or 22 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, well fed, round shoulders, a little long visaged, of a light brown complexion, with dark hazel eyes.He had had several other masters, the last being Nicholas Low. During the Revolution he served as a sergeant under Captain Thomas Wasson, 2nd Albany Militia. On October 23,1780 he was taken prisoner by the forces of Sir John Johnson and Joseph Bryant and taken to Canada. He was exchanged and back in Schenectady by 23 Jul 1781. While he was a prisoner, on 26 Dec 1780, his Masonic Lodge contributed fifty shillings to help care for his family. He also served in the Levies under Colones John Harper. ( See A History of Schenectady During the Revolution by W. T. Hanson). On 17 Jun 1789 he was mentioned in a bond for one James Holmes, a farmer of New Jersey. He was identified as a baker of Schenectady along with Henry Brown, innkeeper and Alexander Alexander, merchant also of Schenectady.( See Genealogical Data from New York Administrative Bonds by Kenneth Scott) In November of 1798, along with John Corl he was appointed a superintendant of the night watch.
